Family Retreats & Overnight Stays
When you’re trying to get the family together for a reunion, one of the most challenging logistical problems is selecting a location. Finding a venue that can meet your needs in terms of lodging, price, geography, accessibility and accommodations, and other areas is a massive challenge. Even more stressfully, being lucky enough to have a big family means that planning the reunion will be a bigger headache. Someone can generously open their home if they have a lot of guest bedrooms and there is adequate hotel or motel availability nearby, but usually everyone is understandably hesitant to take on such a massive responsibility. Even if multiple people help with planning, when a family member is hosting the reunion it inevitably limits the range of possibilities by the time it’s time to send everyone their invites.
Limited possibilities are antithetical to the point of having a reunion in the first place: reconnecting. Even among family members who see each other regularly, you should never underestimate the value of a shared experience. Something as simple as playing a tabletop game or sharing a meal might be the difference between collaboration and hostility between two family members. It might be all it takes to make someone feel included, appreciated, or loved. It might the chance two people have to resolve a conflict or finally open up about something that they’ve been holding in. Family reunions strengthen and build lasting relationships, and that often translates into your family living more harmoniously and happily afterward. However, people need plenty of different options to feel comfortable reconnecting in the way that works best for them.
In today’s world, spending time with your loved ones seems more important than ever!
Plan that gathering, share time, make lasting memories!
In the busy and stressful activities of modern life, it is easy to lose sight of the relationships that really matter. But family gatherings can be a lot less fun (and a lot more stress) when you have to worry about logistics, scheduling, cleaning, food and drink options, event planning, and all the other details. There are a lot more things to disagree and argue about, and unmet expectations (and the disappointments that result) are a source of conflict and resentment when things don’t go smoothly. Sometimes, the home the family reunion is held at – and who lives there – will shape the opinions of attending family members more than anything else. Even if the reunion is otherwise perfect, disliking the family member that is hosting it can make the whole experience less enjoyable for the host, the guest, and anyone else that gets dragged into it.
Compared to hosting a reunion yourself, however, getting a professional host can make things much easier. Hosting the reunion on a private property unrelated to the family can eliminate many potential problems and help family members break out of their typical routine and try something new together. This has the potential to change relationships in the family for the better, help people’s mental health, and provide an opportunity to make new memories with loved ones.
Finding a private location that can handle setup, cleaning, scheduling, and that has pre-existing relationships with caterers and professional event planners minimizes chaos and conflict. Drumore Mill suits all these requirements and more, and our 30-acre property is an ideal location for your family reunion. You can enjoy the beauty of nature without leaving the comforts of modern life behind. Indoor areas can hold up to 100 guests, enjoy excellent views of the surrounding landscape, and still use all the conveniences of the digital age including WiFi connectivity, user-friendly sound systems, Smart TVs, PA systems, and wireless microphones. Up to 14 bedrooms are available for lodging for overnight stays, too.
Outdoor areas feature lush woods, rocky cliffs, wetlands, creeks, and waterfalls that provide ample opportunities for outdoor activities like hiking and sports. Fishing Creek, which is one of the few rivers in the county with native trout and rare fish species, runs through the property and into the nearby Susquehanna River. The nearby Fishing Creek Nature Preserve and Susquehannock State Park make Drumore Hill a central destination for almost every outdoor activity imaginable, which can be a great excuse to spend time together having fun with the whole family.

The surrounding Lancaster County is also one of the most popular tourist destinations in the state of Pennsylvania, meaning your gathering will have plenty to do both on- and off-site. Better yet, Lancaster County has many attractions that cater to people with different interests, and the nearby surrounding counties also have plenty of activities.
Nearby Lancaster County attractions include the Fishing Creek Nature Preserve, Fern Cliff National Preserve, and Susquehannock State Park, Amish communities, countless hiking trails, and many restaurants, breweries and meaderies to end the meeting day in. Consider a tour of a historical attraction, Cornwall Iron Furnace, or National Iron and Steel Heritage Museum. For fun, try a tour of the Herr’s Snack Factory, the Antique Automobile Club of America Museum, the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, or a private museum collection such as Barry’s Car Barn.
Even family members who aren’t “outdoors-y” can still enjoy their trip, though. There are dozens of museums in the area covering every conceivable interest, from the Civil War to the clock-making, and from Amish history to military edged weaponry (although some museums have heavy themes, most in the area are relatively family-friendly). Other stops could include Lancaster County’s countless antique shops, restaurants, cafes, and farmers markets. And, after a long day of fun at Drumore Mill and the surrounding attraction, there are several highly-rated breweries to cap off the trip together.
